Dee Scallan with her Moby Pincher Illustrator, Daniel Myers
A beloved Louisiana children’s story writer, Scallan is renowned for teaching her students to write and illustrate thematic books. Through Scallan’s residency, students will create stories based on the state of affairs of the Great Depression as compared to today’s world using the Four Square method.
Dee Scallan was raised in Central Louisiana around Alexandria, Louisiana. Dee has owned and operated a private pre-school for twenty-five years. She is affectionately known as “Miss Dee” to all of her students. Miss Dee created Moby Pincher stories for the storytime hour at her school, and the children loved them. Miss Dee continued to create the stories because the children would plead to hear them. Most of the stories center around a holiday. In the stories, Miss Dee attempts to familiarize the children with events, animals, insects, plants and other things that are native to Louisiana.
Dee is on the Louisiana State Artist Roster as Author/Storyteller and she is an arts in education consultant on the Louisiana Presenters Association’s State Consultant Directory and the Star-Lit is in Dallas benefiting the Bethlehem Center for Children, but it is not at the Dallas Bethlehem Center.
Awarded by the State Board of elementary and secondary education and the Louisiana state department of education a certificate to Dee Scallan and Daniel Myers for recognizing the importance of parent and child reading opportunities by developing the Moby Pincher book series, providing a creative approach to learning about Louisiana, and offering a unique experience for parents and children.
