Juggernaut Jug Band

FRANKLIN – The Princess Theatre

7:00 PM

714 Prairie St., Winnsboro, 71295

RUPAR presents the fall tour of the Juggernaut Jug Band.  Jazzy jug band music played on washboards, washtubs, kazoos, jugs and various other sundries fills the air.  It isn’t only jazz, but also blues, ragtime, swing and original music combined in a strange concoction called jug band music. Jug bands flourished in towns along the Ohio and Mississippi rivers in the 1920’s and 30’s. Much as New Orleans spawned Dixieland Jazz, Louisville, home of the Juggernaut Jug Band was the birthplace of jug music. Each performance is a challenge to the audience to have as much fun as the band. Don’t let their antics fool you though . . . their exuberant music is the result of skillfully conceived arrangements, unusual instrumentation, and unique vocal harmonies. $15 PP, $10 students (318) 435-6299

Juggernaught Jug Band

MOREHOUSE – The Rose Theatre

7:00 PM

102 East Jefferson Avenue, Bastrop, 71221

$50 PP; $25 students (318) 283-0120

Pickin’ & Grinnin’ Bluegrass and Country Show

DESOTO – BackAlley Community Theatre

7:00 PM

904 Mary Jane Blvd., Grand Cane, 71052

Bluegrass is a style developed during the mid-1940’s as a response to dealing with the challenging times of the Great Depression.  Because of war rationing, recording was limited during that time and it would be most accurate to say was played some time after WWII but no earlier.  No one person could have claimed to “invented” it.  Rather, bluegrass is an amalgam of old time country music, country, ragtime, and jazz.  Nevertheless bluegrass’s beginnings can be traced to one band.  Today Bill Monroe is referred as the “founding father” of bluegrass music; the bluegrass style was named for his band, the Blue Grass Boys, formed in 1939. $5 (318) 872-6373
