Andrea Sophia Gates’ Story

My name is Andrea Sophia Gates. My nickname is Andi. I am 13 years old, and I was born on February 13, 1996. I live in Weston, Louisiana. If my father had his salary cut in half because of the recession, this is what I would do to help my family survive.
This is how I would save money. First, at school I would bring my lunch. That would save $1.75 a day. I could also walk to school. That would save gas, and I would get a nice workout. I could also give up, grudgingly, the clubs I participate in. I think giving up my clubs would be the hardest thing that I would have to do, but I would do it without complaining. I could also give up snacks from the concession stand. That would cut out $2 a day.
Second, I would cut back in my social life. To cut back in my social life, I could give up my cell phone. Again, I would do it without complaining, but I wouldn’t like it. I could give up the Internet. I could do that because I’m not usually on line. I could also give up shopping. That would save some money. That would also be hard.
Third, I would work to bring in some extra cash by getting a job. Here are some things I could do.  I could tutor. I would be good at that because I do very well in school. Also, I could cut fire wood.  I’m very good at that even though I’m a girl. My papa taught me the right way to do it and how to stack it. I could also perform lawn services. That is a regular chore now so I’m sure I’d be descent. These are the things I would do to help. I would do more to bring in some cash but seeing as I’m underage ……
By cutting back in school, eliminating social activates, and getting a job I would help my family survive the recession. I would do all this and more if it came to it. I believe that we are very privileged in the way that we really don’t have to go through bad times as most other states do. We have had it very easy, and I’m grateful for that. I disagree with the elders of our state in the aspect that we wouldn’t be able to adapt. They think this way because we virtually have had an easy life. But, if it came down to it I could adapt to the situation, though I pray that it never comes to that. I am very thankful for the easy life God has given me.
