Claiborne Parish-Homer.
Community Center (now American Legion Hut).
Architect: unknown.
Completed: 1936. Cost: $13,430.
Historian’s Note: The facility was built by the members of the 4491st Company, Soil Conservation Serice-3 living at nearby Camp Claiborne. The construction started on December 31, 1935 and was completed on July 31, 1936. Funding probably was provided by the Works Progress Administration. Although considered small when compared to other community centers built during this time, the Community Center provided adequate space for the needs of the community. Unknown when the name was changed to the American Legion Hut.
