Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camps in North Louisiana, 1933-1941:  Source:  LSU-S archives; District Annual for 1933 and 1937.  The states of Louisiana and Mississippi came under District E, Fourth Army Area.  Headquarters for District E was located at Camp Beauregard, Louisiana and had oversight of a variety of camps.  Although the CCC organization was based on military forms, utilized Army and Navy reservists as commanders and staff personnel, and instilled military-type discipline, the CCC was not part of the Department of the Army.  Most common camp was the Soil Conservation Service, denoted as SCS.  Other camps included; Forestry (F); Private Forestry (P); State Forestry (SP).  The most unique camp was “Army-1” located at Barksdale Field, Shreveport.  Each camp had normally one numbered “Company” with a few having multiple Companies stationed at the camp. Whites and black CCC members worked in separate Companies.  Some Companies were organized in one camp but moved to other locations.  Most of the members of the Companies were generally from the surrounding area but some came from states outside of Louisiana and Mississippi.
