MOVIE SHOWINGS PRESENTED BY THE ROBINSON FILM CENTER
The Robinson Film Center of Louisiana, the premiere non-profit community film center of the South, will be presenting John Ford’s Academy Award®-winning 1940 film “The Grapes Of Wrath” in ten Louisiana parishes as part of the National Endowment For The Arts’ BIG READ and the Eye-20 Creative Corridor’s “Triumph Over Tragedy” commemoration of the Great Depression/New Deal Era.
The classic adaptation of John Steinbeck’s best-selling novel about migrant workers’ cross-country journey was nominated for seven Oscars®, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. The film was one of the first films to be recognized as a culturally significant treasure in the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry and has been named twice to the American Film Institute’s lists of the top 100 American films ever made.
The Robinson Film Center will screen “The Grapes Of Wrath” in schools, libraries, theaters and parks in each parish using the center’s incredible Movies And Moonbeams projection system, the first outdoor cinema experience in Louisiana. For a listing of other locations to see the film across North Louisiana visit the eye20creativecorridor.com website.
Dr. Jefferson Hendricks, Centenary College of Louisiana will also provide an introduction that will frame the movie in context including, where John Ford, Henry Fonda, etc. were in their careers, how the movie was telling a contemporary story based on a controversial best-seller, and share things to look out for in the movie as it differs from the book.
