The Herbert S. Ford Memorial Museum is exhibiting Creative Inspiration from the Great Depression: 1932-1941, a project of Triumph Over Tragedy. This exhibit salutes the creative expressions of the Claiborne Parish art students and others as they interpret the historical facts of the Great Depression and the efforts the many programs of the New Deal had on our nation and her people. After a study of the Great Depression and President Roosevelt’s New Deal, the Claiborne Parish art teachers and their students will create objects that will reflect their understanding of the Great Depression and the efforts to restore prosperity to America and her people. The Herbert S. Ford Memorial Museum is exhibiting The Civilian Conservation Corps in Claiborne and Surrounding Parishes a project of Triumph Over Tragedy. This exhibit salutes the revitalization and reforestation work successfully completed by America’s young men at a time when economic chaos and unemployment had gripped the country for two years. A 1937 photograph of the Claiborne Parish Civilian Conservation Corp located in Homer and a photograph of the young men enlisted at that time serve as a backdrop to the exhibit on President Roosevelt massive revitalization of the nation’s economy. As part of Roosevelt’s New Deal, the CCC brought together the nation’s young men and the land in an effort to save them both. This peacetime army was sent out to battle the erosion and destruction of the nation’s resources.
