I started at Louisiana Tech in summer 1929. I had to drop out cause my daddy’s money gave out. We had a bad year, it was a dry year and he didn’t make as much cotton. So he told me that his money had given out. I came up in a family where we talked about things. He said he would borrow it. I asked if he would have to put up the land to borrow it and he said yes. So I said “no, I’ll find a job.” I went to the superintendent and he told me he’d hire me if I took student teaching. I got a job in a two room school teaching the upper grades. I loved it. I got married in 1933 and we lived with his parents for several years. My husband farmed and I taught school. My in-laws watched our son. I went to school in the summers to finish out that degree.
