I was born down in what we called Egypt. I didn’t know why it was called Egypt til I was grown. Mr. Stone, they called him Pharaoh. He had a store and he would over charge people. People would go and get stuff on credit. They didn’t know what it cost. My dad had a daybook that he kept in his overall pocket and everything he bought he put it down, the day he bought it and how much it cost. And when he went down to get a settlement he knew exactly what he owed them. See, the other people didn’t, they didn’t know. So many of them didn’t read and write and they didn’t know what they owed. And they stayed in debt and that’s why they called it Egypt cause he was Pharaoh and wouldn’t let the people go.
