TRIUMPH OVER TRAGEDY:
The Great Depression/New Deal Era in North Louisiana is the
inaugural collaboration of the EYE-20 CREATIVE CORRIDOR.
October, 2009 to May, 2010
Every other year, the EYE-20 CREATIVE CORRIDOR collaboration of Arts Councils commits to a thematic programming of events to assure access by communities to the highest quality of arts by local artists and arts organizations. From September 2009 through May 2010, we implemented TRIUMPH OVER TRAGEDY, a Commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Great Depression/New Deal Era in North Louisiana.
This project included Arts In Education residencies with professional artists at schools across North Louisiana; the largest ever BIG READ of John Steinbeck’s THE GRAPES OF WRATH; numerous theatrical and musical performances; art exhibitions at libraries, galleries and museums; and the creation of New Works of Art based on the resilience of 50 elders and 50 architectural sites “Then & Now.”
